Wine is an Open Source implementation of the Windows API on top of X and Unix. It could also be that some still suspect PoL Wine packages are not pristine Wine sources.
a tool that make it easy (or even the default) to use old versions of Wine, or install native components (then again, so does winetricks). wine-development: unsure for this one, but probably helps wine developers to debug EXE running with wine with more debug information. winehq-stable: this is the current stable wine version (probably the one you should install) winehq-devel: this package is used to provide development headers, mostly used by third party software compilation.
